第十届Luminato艺术节6月中举行

小编只是想说一句,2015年Luminato艺术节的时候,小编去了两趟,感受特别深刻。今年小编还会过去的,假若时间许可的话!有音乐,有艺术,还有美食,生活何所求呢?

LUMINATO FESTIVAL PRESENTS TROVE: A VIEW OF TORONTO IN 50 OF ITS TREASURES

From June 10 to 26, Luminato Festival presents Trove – A View of Toronto in 50 of its Treasures, a visual arts exhibition that pulls together the most fascinating, precious, storied objects and artworks from both private and public collections across the city. Curated by Luminato Festival Artistic Director Jorn Weisbrodt, the images are created by renowned Toronto-based artist Scott McFarland in a unique collaboration with Toronto’s architectural team PARTISANS who designed a virtual gallery for these objects. The exhibition features 50 photographs of 50 unique pieces, bringing these rarely seen treasures out of their vaults and collections through photography to be shared publicly with the people of Toronto.

All 50 photos will be shown in public spaces around the city as well as in their entirety in the Jackman Gallery at the Hearn Generating Station. The Jackman Gallery, located on the third floor mezzanine, is on the northern side of the Hearn Generating Station above Turbine Hall and at 960 ft. in length, is the longest column-less gallery space in the world, and is made possible by the generous support of the Hal Jackman Foundation.

Torontonians may serendipitously discover these images throughout the city – on a street corner, the side of a building, a digital billboard, a movie screen, a shop window or in the subway – or they may reflect on these seemingly disparate objects in one space and develop their own connections, narratives and associations.

From a magnificent Rubens painting from the Art Gallery of Ontario; to a tiny cigarette paper umbrella made by a Japanese prisoner in an internment camp and an African Kota statue; to the first map of the North Pole and the 1992 and 1993 Major League Baseball World Series Blue Jay Championship Rings from the collection of avid baseball fan Geddy Lee, photographed on his hand; the objects celebrate the diversity of this city and add to the rich tapestry that defines it.

“A physical exhibition like this would probably be impossible to put together as the objects are too diverse, too widespread,” said Jorn Weisbrodt, Luminato Festival Artistic Director. “Some of them are too valuable; some of them need food and water. But as photographic images in the public space, created by an artist such as Scott McFarland, it becomes possible to bring all of these together in one exhibition. It is this idea of freeing ourselves from institutional walls, of being outside the institutions and buildings that house our possessions and not inside them, of using the city as an art gallery that make this a project for our 10th anniversary festival.”

The objects, selected after a months-long research and curation process, have been individually photographed by McFarland and digitally placed inside 3D renderings of a future, imagined contemporary gallery in the Hearn designed by Toronto’s acclaimed architecture firm PARTISANS. In order to create a photo-realistic image, McFarland has also photographed vistas within the Hearn that will be incorporated into the 3D renderings. Industrial past, the presence of the object and virtual future are collapsed into the reality of the image.

Trove will be on display at the Hearn in the Jackman Gallery on the third floor mezzanine, and across the city from June 10 to 26. Access to the Jackman Gallery is free. The project, conceived by Jorn Weisbrodt, is a unique collaboration between Scott McFarland, PARTISANS, and Luminato Festival. For a full list of featured objects, images and more information, check out the project online at www.trove.to.

Trove is supported by the Hal Jackman Foundation, Ontario Arts Council, Norm Li, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment and 3M Canada.

In addition to Trove, a range of visual arts projects will be on display at the Hearn for the duration of Luminato Festival, including: One Thousand Speculations by Michel de Broin – the world’s largest mirror ball (commissioned by Luminato Festival in 2013); Untilled (Liegender Frauenakt) by Pierre Huyghe – a statue of a reclining woman whose head is entirely obscured by a bee-hive (presented in partnership with the AGO); and installations throughout Turbine Hall by OCAD University, Younger Than Beyoncé Gallery and Jordan Söderberg Mills (Design Exchange).

Luminato Festival will #TurnOnTheHearn, Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays) from June 10 to 26. Public access to the building during opening hours is free with some exceptions to accommodate ticketed programming. Best efforts are being made to ensure that as much of the building as possible is accessible. Areas that are not accessible will be clearly identified. Watch Luminato’s website for exciting additions and updates to the line-up. For more information and tickets, visit www.luminatofestival.com.
